Modulixy operates on a real-time signal routing engine that processes audio at buffer sizes down to 64 samples, achieving sub-5ms latency on compatible Android devices. The modular architecture separates sound generation, modulation, and effects processing into discrete modules that communicate through a virtual patch bay system.
The synthesis core includes 12 oscillator types ranging from classic analog waveforms to wavetable and FM synthesis engines. Each oscillator outputs at 48kHz sample rate with 24-bit depth, feeding into a routing matrix that supports up to 128 simultaneous patch connections. Modulation sources include 8 LFOs, 4 envelope generators with ADSR and multi-stage configurations, and a step sequencer with 64-step capacity.
The effects chain operates post-synthesis with zero-latency monitoring through direct hardware buffer access. Available processors include multi-mode filters with resonance modeling, stereo delay with tempo sync, reverb with 8 algorithmic models, distortion with wave-shaping algorithms, and a parametric EQ with spectrum analyzer visualization. All parameters accept CV modulation from any source in the patch.
Connect any output to any input through a visual patch bay interface. The routing system supports 128 simultaneous connections with color-coded cables, drag-and-drop patching, and automatic conflict resolution. Save complete patch configurations as presets including all module states and cable routings.
Choose from 12 synthesis engines including subtractive analog modeling, wavetable scanning with 64 waveforms, two-operator FM synthesis, phase distortion, and noise generators with spectral shaping. Each oscillator features independent pitch tracking, pulse width modulation, and hard sync capabilities.
Eight independent LFOs with 16 waveform shapes, tempo synchronization, and phase offset control. Four envelope generators supporting ADSR, AHDSR, and custom multi-stage configurations with curve shaping. Sample-and-hold module with clock division and smoothing filter for stepped random modulation.
Studio-grade processing including state-variable filters with lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and notch modes at 12dB and 24dB slopes. Stereo delay with independent left/right timing, feedback filtering, and ping-pong mode. Algorithmic reverb with room, hall, plate, and spring simulations.
Touch-responsive XY pad for simultaneous two-parameter control with recording and playback. Virtual keyboard with velocity sensitivity, aftertouch simulation, and configurable scale modes. MIDI input support for external controller integration with full CC mapping to any parameter.
Save unlimited patches with complete module configurations, routing maps, and parameter states. Factory library includes 100 categorized presets covering bass, leads, pads, sequences, and experimental textures. Export patches as shareable files for community exchange.
